Recycled 18k: The Quiet Gold Revolution

By Rafael Ng6 min readFebruary 5, 2026

Every Echovelle setting is formed from recycled 18k or 925 sterling. What that means for your piece — and for the ground we stand on.

Gold, once refined, is indistinguishable — atom for atom — from gold newly mined. Our metallurgists will tell you this with a shrug. The reason to prefer recycled is not the metal. It is what the metal avoids.

What "Recycled" Really Means

Our gold is melted from end-of-life electronics, dental alloys, and old jewellery scrap. It is then re-refined to 18k fineness at a certified Hong Kong assay. The resulting alloy meets the same RJC standard as freshly mined gold.

Why It Matters

One ounce of mined gold can displace twenty tonnes of earth. Recycled gold does not. For a brand that grows its pearls in water, choosing a metal that does not disturb ground felt less like a decision and more like common sense.

What You Feel on Your Finger

Nothing different. 18k is 18k. The weight, the warmth, the slow patina over years — all the same. The only difference is what went into the ring, not the ring itself.
