A mabe (pronounced mah-bay) is a cultured half-pearl, grown against the flat inner shell of a large oyster — typically Pinctada maxima, the same species that produces South Sea pearls. Because it develops with a flat back, the mabe can be carved into sculptural forms like this heart.
The result: a dome with all the luster and iridescence of a fine saltwater pearl, but with a shape impossible in round form. Our 12–14mm heart-form mabe has a softly domed surface, a crisp silhouette, and a quiet glow that reads as fine-jewelry rather than costume.
