Teardrop (also called drop) pearls form when the nucleus inside the oyster rolls slightly during cultivation — producing a pearl with one rounded end and one tapered end. They are significantly rarer than round pearls because symmetric teardrops require exceptional conditions, and they carry a strong visual presence on any neckline.
This 12–13mm teardrop is a South Sea golden, grown in the Pinctada maxima oyster in northern Australia or the Philippines. The warm gold body colour is natural — pigment from the oyster's lip, not a dye treatment.

A teardrop pendant wears differently than a round one — the tapered form points downward, lengthening the neckline. At 45cm it sits at the collarbone; the pendant drop adds another 20–25mm visually.
- V-neck and scoop-neck tops — the teardrop echoes the line of the neckline
- Collared shirts — over an open collar, quietly elevates an everyday blouse
- Evening — against bare collarbone or a silk top, the warmth of the pearl pops
Pull the 40–45cm slider to sit higher or lower depending on neckline.
- Wipe the pearl (not the silver) with a soft cloth after each wear
- Polish the sterling silver chain and clasp separately with a silver cloth — skin oils will tarnish silver over months
- Store the necklace flat in the pouch — teardrops scratch at the tapered end most easily
- Avoid perfume, chlorine, saltwater, and cosmetic contact
- Never ultrasonic or steam
